Snowtail pricked up her ears and padded out of the elder's den to hear what Tornstar had to say.

"I, Tornstar, Leader of FlamePride, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. She has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend her to you as a warrior in her turn. Toadpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your pride, even at the cost of your life?"

"I do." answered Toadpaw.

"Then by StarPride, I give you your warrior name. Toadpaw, from this day on, you will be known as Toadtail. StarPride honors you and we welcome you as a full warrior of FlamePride." Padding forward, Tornstar rested his muzzle on top of Toadtail's head.

Toadtail licked Flamestar's shoulder, then sat back and listened to the pride call out her new name.

"Toadtail, Toadtail, Toadtail!" cheered Snowtail for the pride's newest warrior.

Coyotefeather padded out of her den, dragging the body of Nightflower in her jaws. She made her way to the center of the pride camp, arranging the deputy so the pride could grieve.

Mosspaw padded out and pressed his nose into Nightflower's fur.

Tornstar touched his nose to Nightflower's fur, then tossed his head back in a roar. "Lions of FlamePride. Listen, And I will appoint the new deputy. I say these words before StarPride so our ancestors may hear and approve my choice..Gooseflower will be the deputy of FlamePride!"

"Thank you, Tornstar." answered Gooseflower with a dip of his head.

"Gooseflower, Gooseflower, Gooseflower!" cheered Sandpaw for the pride's new deputy.

Mosspaw padded over and pressed his nose into Tornstar's fur.

Gooseflower touched his nose to Tornstar's fur, feeling the lives rush into his own body, then tossed his head back in a roar. "Lions of FlamePride. Listen, And I will appoint my deputy. "Thank you, Goosestar." answered Clovestripe, feeling a little stunned at her son's choice.

"Clovestripe, Clovestripe, Clovestripe!" cheered Echostorm for the pride's new deputy.

Coyotefeather padded into the FlamePride camp, carrying tansy in her jaws. She made her way into her den, placing the tansy into the storage.

Brambleflower pulled a baboon from the fresh-kill pile and sat down to eat.

Shrewfur pricked up his ears and padded over to hear what Goosestar had to say.
